In the early and mid 80s the Americans were threatened by the Japenese. American business responded and took lessons learned to create extremely efficient systems and push productivity to historic levels. Although Europe may have some advantages in telecomunications, it is way to early to guage the success of the Euro community.
Japan and Europe still have taxes that are too high. We still too, but I think not as high as other contries.
